Spatial Analysis

In section 5.1 examples are given for applying source detection to ROSAT PSPC data, the creation of an image and a mask for source detection, the local, map and maximum likelihood source detection (source parameter determination), source detection on ROSAT HRI data, local and the map detection on ROSAT WFC data, the determination of the extention of a source and finally the calculation of the galactic coordinates of a source.

In section 5.2 single spatial analysis tasks are described, the determination of the background counts per pixel, the creation of the smoothed background image, the determination of the total field of view background spectrum, the creation of an image for source detection tasks, the source detection using the local background, the source detection using the background from the background image, the merging of source tables, the maximum likelihood source detection, the merging of source lists after the maximum likelihood detection, source detection in one single command, the creation of a maximum likelihood image, the conversion of source detection lists, a multi-source fit to image data, the determination of source counts and of upper limit counts, the calculation of source count rates and of hardness ratios for a source list, the determination of the source extent, the calculation of the point spread function probability or quantile, the creation of a point spread function model profile, the calculation of linear, radial and azimuthal intensity profiles and of intensity contours, the calculation of counts within a box and a circle or ring, coordinate transformations, the creation of a user defined source table, the plotting of source list positions, the labeling of source positions, the plotting of coordinate grids, the determination of coordinates by cursor, the screening of an image by a mask, the alignment of an image to a reference image and the adding of a contour image to a reference image.

In section 5.3 the command syntax and the parameter file handling is described. An overview is given over all EXSAS spatial analysis commands. In section 5.4 the ROSAT PSPC point spread function and the X-ray mirror efficiency (vignetting) are described. In section 5.5 a list of all input and output files is given with a description of the parameters in the source tables. In section 5.6 the products from the SASS relevant for the Spatial Analysis are described.
